The Jesse Tree

| The first of 20 lessons explains the Jesse Tree, referring to Isaiah 11:1. Subsequent lessons are chronological, beginning with God the Father, then Adam, and continuing through the years until the birth of the Messiah. Each contains a meditation, the retelling of a Bible story or reading from a Bible story book (for younger children), and a Bible study, complete with referenced verses and questions. Instructions are included for making an ornament to reinforce each lesson. These can be hung on a branch, small evergreen, wreath, or Christmas tree. We found a tree-shaped branch and rooted it in a pot with gravel for our “Jesse tree” - then decorated it with the ornaments made during the study. The craft projects symbolize the people or event studied in each lesson and their construction was a highlight of the study for my children as well as a continuing reminder of the material. I confess to embellishing several of the craft ideas - I’m downright dangerous when armed with a needle and thread or glue gun! But, for those less inclined, simpler ornaments can be substituted for the crafts by copying and coloring the patterns included. Even though the season is long past, our Jesse Tree still graces our family room - waiting for a new crop of ornaments this year! | |
